Art Deco silky oak desk

This desk I have recently finished restoring. The desk was originally made for telecom by the department of public works. It had been well made out of solid silky oak and restored nicely. Bellow are a few images of the restoration process.

Worn drawer sides are machined and hand planed flat, then built up with timber, in this Victorian Ash which will wear a lot better than the Hoop Pine. The worn drawer runners are also rebuilt with Victorian ash

You need a lot of clamps when doing restoration work. Above image is the new timber being glued onto the drawer sides and the drawer runners. Once the repaired runners are refitted into the carcass the rebuilt drawer sides are hand planed and each drawer is individually fitted. The drawers will now run smoothly for many years to come.

The solid Silky Oak top is planed flat. Then sanded stained and French Polished along with the rest of the desk.
